Finishing for a country house is one of the most important stages in creating a stylish, comfortable suburban housing. Not only a cozy atmosphere depends on how your home is decorated inside and out. The materials with which the interior decoration of the country house is carried out must be of high quality, environmentally friendly, fireproof. Also, the decoration and cladding of the building should be equipped in such a way that in the cold season the house “cools down” as slowly as possible.
Exterior: The Most Popular Options
Beautiful and high-quality exterior decoration for a country house, facade design - this can be said to be one of the main “calling cards” of each homeowner. It reflects its aesthetic taste, reasonable economy, and a rational approach to home furnishing and repair. Fortunately, modern materials for decorating the cottages from the outside give a huge scope for creativity, allow you to perfectly combine “aesthetic” and “practical” in one design solution.
Among the undoubted leaders in the exterior decoration for a country house is undoubtedly siding. Decorating a country house with siding is one of the most affordable options financially. Siding is easy to mount (if you have certain knowledge and skills, such work can be done independently). This material allows you to quickly "sew up" the country house outside, reliably hide the insulation, literally transform the old building in just a few days. Siding is attached to a special profile, and manufacturers guarantee that such a finish will reliably serve from 20 to 35 years.
Another option how the facade decoration of a country house can be made is the use of a material called “block house”. This is a natural material, which, when cladding a country house or a cottage from the outside, gives the feeling that the building is made of real logs. Also there is a similar material, which in its external characteristics is a copy of the timber.
Exterior decoration in a country house can also be carried out using facing bricks. The cost of this option for decorating the facade is quite high (significantly higher compared, for example, with siding) - however, the service life of the brick finish is much longer. The decor of the facade with facing brick is stylish, soundly and expensive. And in the event that finances allow, it is worth stopping your choice on such a decision.
Exterior finish of a summer cottage can also be done using special facing tiles for facade work. Experienced builders can decorate any building with tiles so that it becomes like a work of design art. It is worth it, of course, also not cheap.
Exterior finish is often made of natural wood. But in this case, make sure that the tree is reliably protected by special compounds from moisture, pests, direct sunlight.
It all depends on two important factors - your aesthetic taste and, of course, the amount that you are willing to spend on decorating the facade of your summer cottage.
Another relevant and striking option is the fachwerk imitation. Modern high-quality material allows you to make the cottage look like a European medieval mansion. DSP or OSB panels are used for this: they facade is sheathed, then it is plastered, and after that decorative elements from a board that imitates a beam are fastened. The last step is to paint the facade with a special compound with protective and decorative properties.
And finally, finishing for a country house can be done by plastering. You can perform traditional plastering works, followed by painting the house outside, or you can use decorative plaster so fashionable today for a very effective finish.
Which option to choose from the above is up to you.
Interior decoration
What materials to choose for internal work? It should be remembered that the interior decoration for the country house should be carried out only after all communications are laid, wiring is completed, engineering equipment is installed.
There are several popular ideas on how interior decoration for a country house can be made. Natural materials are always relevant: in particular, wood. In this case, the premises of the country house will be sheathed with lining or block house. You can install such materials in different ways: for example, a block house is usually placed vertically, and you can mount the lining as you like - both vertically and horizontally.
In a lumber cottage, as well as in a frame house, wall decoration can be performed using OSB-sheets or plywood sheets. After the building is sheathed from the inside with such sheets, you can start painting the walls or paste wallpaper in the rooms. You can experiment by combining interior paint, wallpaper and wall paneling in one interior solution.
In the bathroom, as well as in the kitchen, ceramic tiles are often used for decoration. If finances allow, you can replace ceramics with marble, if the budget is as limited as possible, tiles in the bathroom and in the working area in the kitchen can be replaced with plastic. This material cannot be called environmentally friendly, but its undoubted plus (in addition to the price, of course) is the ease of installation, as well as dismantling. At any time, you can remove the old panels and replace them with new ones using the same frame, while dismantling and re-laying the tiles requires a lot of time, effort and financial cost.
In the event that the cottage is made of stone or brick, you can use other options: traditional - plaster with subsequent finishing, modern and fast - drywall. However, when working with drywall, we must not forget that this material (due to the installation of the frame) significantly “eats” the space in the rooms. Therefore, for a cottage with a small area, it will nevertheless be relevant for more costly and time-consuming, but also more familiar option - plaster.
Floors and ceilings
Finishing floors in the country can be laid out from a massive floorboard or from a pine board with subsequent painting. In the bathroom, as well as in the corridor and in the kitchen, you can mount the floors from a special floor tile (porcelain tile). It is also possible, if funds permit, to establish a “warm floor”: such a system can be either water or electric.
As for the ceiling, the lining can become the most relevant option for a summer residence. You can also use:
- imitation of timber;
- unedged board (imitation of a rustic style);
- plywood followed by painting;
- drywall, etc.
